Episode 27: Interview With Arenda Holladay April 30, 2010

Filed under: Show Notes — RedQueen @ 11:30 pm

Listen HERE!!

.

This is an interview with one of the co-chairs of the TKGA, Arenda Holladay.  She was kind enough to spend a LONG time with me, chatting about everything under the sun. 🙂   RedQueen and Arenda discuss the Masters program, copyright laws, photo shoot shenanigans, Cast-On Magazine, gauge problems….

This is the mag with the “Wasp Wing Socks” in it.

.The sweater on the cover is the one we’re referring to:  the “Little Red Hooded Coat”

Many many thanks to Arenda, as well as deepest apologies for not publishing this interview sooner.  I hope that all of those working through the Masters program will take her advice and enjoy the process.  And for anyone who hasn’t yet enrolled, but has been thinking about it, I hope that listening to this gives you the confidence to do it!

Episode 26: Now With More Dogs! April 23, 2010

Filed under: Show Notes — RedQueen @ 3:33 pm

Listen HERE!!

.

Another “live” episode — this is the second (and last) one recorded before our unscheduled hiatus.

.

RQ is using Misti Alpaca to knit the Christening Gown from Marie Connolly’s book “The Expectant Knitter.”  Very easy, coming out lovely!  She’s actually swatched this one, and good thing, too:  the stockinette is being knit on size 0, and the lace skirt is now on a 2.  A big change from what the pattern suggests.  (Oh, and she’s knitting the 0-3 month size, guessing that she’ll get the baby christened in the fall.)

.

MH is going to knit a shawl for her friend’s wedding, also using the Misti Alpaca.

.

Echo is using Malabrigo Lace in the Hummingbird colorway to knit Laminaria:

<—————- Ooooh, pretty!

.

The “Burn Test” for fiber involves burning the end of a small piece of fiber with an open flame.  Natural fibers (cotton, wool, linen, etc.) will burn up and turn to ash.  Synthetic fibers (acrylics of any kind) will continue to burn and will melt into a twisted piece of plastic.

.

MH finally got the yarn to finish her godson’s christening sweater!  Yay!  But now she has to wait because her shoulder is acting up again.  😦  But she’s going to massage regularly, and will be seeing a physical therapist who will hopefully give her awesome tips on how to avoid knitting-related injuries.  Which she will then share with the rest of us!!  And in related news, RQ picked up spinning again!  She got almost one whole ounce spun of Echo’s hand-dyed roving, and it looks pretty good.  Big apologies to all the other podcasters that we’ve been neglecting by not listening to their shows.  Fail.

.

Both MH and RQ discuss their jealousy over people who are able to alter patterns to suit themselves.  And RQ makes a terrible, horribly jumbled mess of trying to explain yarn substitutions.  In fact, you’re probably MORE confused now than you were before you listened to us.  😦  (Listen to the Knitmore Girls for a better explanation — we will try to discover which episode they were discussing this in a clear, intelligent manner.)  We are fascinated by those of you that are able to bend your minds around the concept of patterning.  We do not seem to have the skills (yet), or maybe just the patience needed to become good pattern-makers.  Thank goodness there are some of you who do, and we can use the patterns you make!!

.

Big thank you to our co-hosts today:   Mabel, Desmond, and Lucy (in order of size from big to small).  🙂

Episode 25: On Location! April 18, 2010

.

This is our episode recorded at The District in Green Valley Ranch.  It’s a really pretty, new shopping area near MH’s house.  We decided to use the portable recorder, and to take a chance by NOT editing, to see if this would help get episodes out faster.  Would have worked, but….

.

So here are the first of the two episodes we recorded before RQ had bedrest prescribed.  Ta-daa!  😉

Auxilliary Episode: State of Here’s To Ewe! April 9, 2010

Filed under: Uncategorized — RedQueen @ 11:24 pm

We’re back!  Thanks for all your patience!  HERE is the episode!!

A very special “Thank You” from RQ to everyone who wished me and my baby well while we were stuck on bed rest.  Technically, I’m still confined to “limited mobility” but they’ve raised the ban a bit, and now I can cook and clean again.  Yay?  And of course, record fun episodes for all of you!  🙂  To all those participating on our Ravelry forum:  I’m ignoring you.  Feel free to speak your mind.  😉

This is an aux episode b/c we’ve already got a couple recorded, but I wasn’t able to edit them until now, and so if we released them without any explanation, it would be weird.  So here’s a little catch-up for you!

MH’s toy book that we couldn’t remember:

World of Knitted Toys by Kath Dalmeny

.

.

And here is the craft book that MH just bought!  (The picture totally looks like her, fyi.)

.

RQ is a big fan of the new Knit Picks Simply Cotton Organic, and bought one of each color in worsted.  (The missing color was “Malted Milk” fyi.)  And both she and MH are using the Misti Alpaca Laceweight in natural white.  Very nice.

.

Tips for Travellers / Drunk In Public:  MH has been the unfortunate observer of early summer in Las Vegas.  Specifically, drunk chicks in bikinis, running around in the casinos with no towel and NO SHOES.  Don’t be that tourist.  There is nothing hot about trashy folks in swimwear in the food court.  Bleaugh.

State of Here’s to Ewe February 28, 2010

Filed under: Uncategorized — RedQueen @ 6:01 pm

So here’s a brief update:

While I and my baby are fine, we have just been put on bed rest. I am not completely sure what this may entail, but at this point, it seems that i won’t be able to spend much time on the computer editing and uploading episodes. 😦 MH & I have two episodes recorded already, and we’re going to try to figure out a way to make this work, but the next few weeks may feel like a podfade while we muddle our way through it.

Sorry to all you great listeners — I know we’ve been really erratic lately, and that’s as annoying to us as it is to all of you. We’ll keep you updated as we learn more, but this may be another radio-silence break, tbd when we’ll be back on air.

Love you guys! We’ll miss you & think of you while we’re off-air!
